What Relatives Like You Say About Friary Fields

As a specialist dementia care home, we understand that, whatever the difficulties, it is essential to value each of our residents as an individual. We take the time to get to know every new resident and to create a personal care plan which respects their preferences.

Knowing our residents well means we can talk to them about their family, share and encourage their reminiscences and involve them in the activities they are most likely to enjoy. Familiarity also helps to minimise any distress around assistance with personal care, bathing and dressing.

But any care home can pay lip service to this philosophy. We think that meeting our residents will tell you more about the environment at Friary Fields than we ever could:

Safe Haven for Freddie

Freddie has been ill for about three years.  I never realised what a terrible illness Alzheimer’s was until it happened to Freddie. In the beginning it wasn’t too bad, but over the years he got a lot worse and I found it difficult to cope.

I’m elderly and not in the best of health.  I couldn’t go out and leave Freddie and I didn’t get much sleep as Freddie insisted on going to bed at 6pm but he was up again at about 10pm.

One Saturday, Freddie went missing and police and neighbours searched for him.  When he was finally found by helicopter, he was lying in a field of corn.  Had it been winter, he wouldn’t have survived.

Freddie used to walk along a very busy road with no pavement, just a grass verge.  If anyone tried to stop him, he would get very aggressive.

We decided for his own safety that Freddie should stay at Friary Fields Care Home. Since Freddie has been at Friary Fields, the family have felt relieved that he is safe and being well cared for.

We think everyone does a wonderful job in caring for the residents. We like the way we can visit whenever we like and are always made very welcome.

Comfort and Reassurance

When I knew Mother was going into a care home, of course I was worried.  But my worries were soon talked through with Lee and Ash.

My mother is being cared for by friendly, caring and professional staff in a clean, comfortable home.

Please note that all names have been changed to protect the privacy of our residents and their families.
