Facilities at Friary Fields
Despite our two, purpose-built, extensions, we remain a relatively small residence, which helps to foster a homely, personal feel around the care we offer here in Newark.
We can accommodate 34 residents in the following bedrooms:
Every room is furnished and equipped with its own washing facilities, a nurse call button and smoke detector. To help with the transition from family home to Friary Fields, we encourage residents to bring their own furniture if they wish, or perhaps just a favourite chair, together with photographs and treasured possessions to personalise their rooms.
In addition to the en-suite facilities, we’re equipped with nine toilets, five bathrooms and one shower room, all with wheelchair access. A traditional lift and stair lift provideaccess to most rooms on the two upper floors, though more mobile residents are encouraged and helped to use the stairs.
We have a large conservatory and two communal lounges on the ground floor and two further lounges on the first and second floors, so there’s always somewhere to socialise with other residents and meet with friends and relatives.
We offer a rotating menu of traditional, home-cooked, nutritionally balanced meals, served in dining areas attached to each of our two ground floor lounges. We cater for all special dietary needs and offer assistance with eating and encouragement for residents with a poor appetite.
If you’d like to join us for a meal when you visit, please just let us know in advance so that we can cater for you and any special dietary needs you may have.
Our private, mature, landscaped gardens offer further opportunities for socialising, as well as some gentle exercise. We also have a potting shed for residents who would like to continue to enjoy a little light gardening.
As well as visits from our care home into Newark, we offer a lively programme of in-house activities and receive regular visits from musical entertainers, the hairdresser, chiropodist, library, and clergy among others.
For continuity and familiarity, we encourage residents to maintain their relationship with their own GP who knows them best. Occasionally, perhaps when a resident has moved from further afield, if this is not possible, a choice of local GPs is available.
Safety and Security
Although we welcome visitors at any time, for the safety and protection of our residents, entrance and exit is by keycode. We also have smoke detectors in all rooms as well as secondary lighting for safe evacuation in the case of an emergency.
With increasing concerns about the risk of infection, Friary Fields follows NHS infection control guidelines. We’re proud of our record in this area, and recognise the need to maintain stringent standards of cleanliness. Our aim is to safeguard our residents, without creating a clinical or overly medicalised environment, which would not feel like home.
Close to Newark's town centre, we can offer excursions to the local shops, amenities and places of worship. And, because we have good public transport links and ample parking, it’s easy and convenient for relatives and friends to drop by for visits, whenever you’d like.
